Long tasks need checkpoints

Dario Amodei describes powerful AI that can work on tasks for hours or longer in “Machines of Loving Grace.” My practical question is what happens between the request and the result. I would want clear checkpoints, a place to correct the goal and a record of actions I can inspect.
